Manaslu is the eighth-highest mountain in the world, standing at 8,163 meters (26,781 feet) above sea level. Located in the Himalayas of Nepal, it is part of the Mansiri Himal range. The name “Manaslu” comes from the Sanskrit word “manasa,” meaning “soul” or “intellect,” which reflects its spiritual significance to local populations.
Manaslu is known for its challenging climbing conditions due to its steep slopes, unpredictable weather, and avalanche-prone regions. The first successful ascent was made by a Japanese team in 1956, and since then, it has become a popular yet still difficult destination for mountaineers. Unlike Everest, it is less commercialized, and the climbing experience on Manaslu tends to be more remote and wild.
The surrounding region is also a trekking destination, with the Manaslu Circuit Trek offering stunning views of the mountain and the diverse landscapes of the area. This trek passes through traditional villages, forests, and high mountain passes, making it a favorite for trekkers looking for a more off-the-beaten-path adventure in Nepal.
